RECHARGE! REJUVENATE! RE-ENERGIZE!
ENERGIZING
THE LIVING ROOM CHI
8 Pointers to Health, Wealth & Happiness
Feng shui can help bring
new energy to your life
and space. Here’s how:
1 Let’s start with the floor
Revitalize the energy of your
floor. Revitalized earth energy
brings new opportunities into
your life. Invest in a carpet. If
your living room is in the south,
get a bright red carpet. If it is
North, East and Southeast, get
blue or black. East and Southeast
may benefit from green, too.
All other directions will benefit
from beige, yellow and ochre.
2 Focusing on the walls
Paint one feature wall with solid
yang color. Best is a wall facing the
front door. Refreshing such a wall
with a new coat of vibrant colour
will invite fresh yang chi into your
home, bringing new opportunities
and good fortune. Use the colour
guide according to compass directions
and its elements.
3 The bad Chi of Clutter
If you want to enjoy wealth,
health and happiness, it is important
that the living area is free
from clutter – boxes, old news-
papers, dead flowers... Dead insects
bring ill health, dust and dirt attract
yin energy, causing opportunities to
evaporate. Clear the foyer and the staircase.
Blockages in living space create
obstacles in your life.
4 Rearranging your furniture
The seating arrangement should be
conducive to the flow of conversation
and goodwill and harmony. A
confrontational setting – two sofas
directly facing each other – gives rise
to hostility. An awkward positioning
blocks the flow of Chi. Furniture
should never appear to “float” in the
middle of the room.
5 Disarming poison arrows
‘Poison arrows’ are created by the
sharp edges of stand-alone square
pillars, protruding corners and
exposed overhead beams. Block
their killing energy with large
plants and artificial trees.
6 Maintaining balance
& symmetry
Regular shapes in the arrangements
of armchairs, sofas and
tables are best. Use carpets to
delineate pockets of space. If your
living room is small, regularize
irregular shapes with clever use of
paint, cupboards or plants. Aim for
a healthy balance of light and shade
with enough (but not too much)
sunlight. Balance yin and yang forces
– never have too much of anything.
7 Display auspicious art
Feng Shui art means art with an
auspicious meaning and this can be
any painting or art style that
appeals to you or symbols with
positive meanings. Avoid dark
somber subjects that evoke fear,
anger, sadness, sexual or some
other negative emotion. The living
room dominates most homes,
create happiness vibes here.
8 Bring in the
feng shui enhancers
Water features and mountain features
are excellent wealth and relationship
luck enhancers. There are many decorating
objects that double up as feng
shui enhancer s. These include crystal
balls to bring harmony, wealth
creating three legged toads, the
hor ses bringing fame, birds bringing
opportunities and the auspicious
dragons that breathe precious Chi
into all your water featur es.
