Desi News Corp - IndexDesi News Corp - Desi News - April 2009 - IndexWhich, Mohan says with the
nonchalance of the supremely
confident, she totally expected!
“Being at Sundance was
beautiful. Overwhelming. It
was the first time I got to watch
a film of mine on the big screen
and nothing can match that
feeling. After five screenings, with
the response it was generating
– people would stop me on
the street to say they loved it
– I pretty much took it for
granted that we would win!
“Anurag and Chris have
absolutely different styles of
working, and I loved being a
part of both their movies.”
I tell Mohan that I thought
Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday
was a movie with a strong
message, but that I was unable
to wrap my head around his
No Smoking, and she laughs.
“Anurag is so creative, he
can do any type of movie. He
can do a realistic docudrama,
he can do a movie on student
protests, he can do anything.”
Asked to describe her character
in Gulal, she says she
plays a girl hardened by life.
“I play a strong character,
a complicated character with
many layers.”
Mohan enjoys playing the
guitar, watching films, making
home movies, listening to and
making music, but is not going
to have too much time in the near
future to indulge in any of these.
There’s the release of The
Pool coming up on the heels
of all the excitement over
Gulal. And she is also working
on a project that is close to
her heart which she hopes to
direct not too far in the future.
“Directing is my first passion,
but I am also open to
acting. I am going to take it
one day at a time.”

THE PLANET Stop wasting paper
and prevent the indiscriminate
cutting of trees. Walk! Or use
public transit whenever possible.
If you see anyone wasting electricity,
get them to stop – while
being courteous! Which can be
difficult! I walk around our office
switching off lights in
rooms that are not being used
or in conference rooms after a
meeting is over. With nicer weather
approaching, it sometimes gets
too hot in the office. So we have
people opening windows. I tell
them that instead of opening
windows, to talk to the person
in charge to lower the heat. Because
opening windows makes
the system work harder to generate
more heat. IN A PERFECT
WORLD There would peace and
no fighting based on religion.
Taking Earth Day to heart
“Walk!
Use public
transit
whenever
possible!”
