I
received a phone
call one Sunday even-
ing from M.K*.
She sounded distraught,
and asked if
I would come to their
home.
When I got there,
she pointed to her son. “This
is my problem. He won’t listen
to me. He doesn’t respect me.
What should I do?”
I talked about what my wife
and I did with our children
when they wouldn’t listen,
especially when they were
young.
“You tell them once, and if
they don’t listen a second time,
they feel the consequence,” I told
her. “If you don’t follow through
with the consequence, then why
should they listen to you the next
time? They learn that they can
get away with it.
“You need to be consistent
in your discipline and mean it.
If not, not only will he disrespect
you, but also his teacher
in school and other authority

figures in his life,” I told her.
She then asked if I would
talk with her son. I did and told
him his responsibility to his
parents. Then I said to her,
“But ultimately, it’s up to you
as parents to teach him.”
Children are not born innocent.
That’s what the Bible
says. They are born with corrupt
hearts and when they learn
to talk, one of the first words
coming from their mouth is,
“No!”
I can also speak from personal
experience!
We need to train our children,
discipline them, talk with
them and show them the way.
In our home, we sit together at
meal times, take time to talk,
read the Bible and pray
together. We also teach our
children to ask Jesus each day
to forgive them for their sins
and to help them love Him and
others. Only Jesus can give a
905/ 803/ 8310
new heart to us and our
children. How will they learn
to honour their parents from
the heart unless they first learn
to honour the Lord?
If you love your child, then
you will discipline him and
train him.
It’s hard work, probably the
most difficult work in the
world.
The Bible says, “He who loves
him (his child), disciplines him
promptly” (Proverbs 13:24).
If you love your child, dare
to discipline.

A
PROJECT MANAGER thinks nine women can deliver a baby
in one month. A DEVELOPER thinks it will take 18 months.
An ONSITE CO-ORDINATOR thinks one woman can deliver
nine babies in one month. The RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION TEAM thinks
they’ll produce a child with zero resources. A QUALITY AUDITOR is
never happy with a delivered baby. The HR MANAGER thinks that
a donkey can deliver a human baby if given nine months.
And THE CLIENT is someone who doesn’t know why he wanted a
baby in the first place. – Sent by I MRAN HUSSEIN
