Raima Sen, who plays the solo lead in Mere Khwabon Mein Jo
Aaye, admits she was disappointed when C Company did not do well,
but says she has no regrets. “You learn from every mistake you
commit in life,” she shrugs. To play the frustrated housewife who is
not able to realize her dream of becoming a singer, Sen had to learn
how to play the harmonium. “I’m not at all musical, I can’t even sing
in the bathroom!” Sen’s own dream man would be a lot like her
father. “My father encouraged my mother to work even after
marriage, he gave mum a lot of space and he has a terrific sense of
humour. I want a man with a sense of humour and loyalty. I dream
about a man on a white horse coming in search of me!”

ramshackle structure so that it
can be made a tourist attraction.

Beauty Parlours Association
was upset with the title of SRK’s
latest, Billu Barber – it found the
word barber objectionable. The
title was changed to just Billu,
but that didn’t save it from
being a damp squib at the box
office.

products and washes his hair
with mineral water. His hair
stylist says it’s important that
hair be washed with soft water.
“In the past, SRK’s hair got
damaged when he used well
water while shooting in remote
locations for Paheli. After that,
he has learned to be careful.
Also it affects the look and
continuity in the film and he
doesn’t want to take any risks.”

Speaking about the parallel cinema movement that he helped
usher in the 70s, Naseeruddin Shah says the problem was that
a star system was created even though it was supposed to be a
refreshing change from the then existing star system. He has
acted with the maximum number of first-time directors, including
Toronto-based Ali Kazimi (the documentary Continuous Journey)
and Richie Mehta (Amal). “More than probably any other actor
in the world!” he laughs. “And I have not regretted working with
even one first-time director though I have regretted having
worked with quite a few veteran directors. The hunger of a firsttime
filmmaker is greater before he tastes success. The new
generation of filmmakers does not talk of cerebral things like
the filmmakers of yesteryears. When I look back and watch my
debut film as a director, Yun Hota To Kya Hota, I feel it was
incompetent in some sequences. One has to face facts.”

Balaji Films are working on a project titled Once Upon A Time
based on the life of underworld don Haji Mastan whose writ
ran in Bombay in the 1970s. But Mastan’s family is not happy
with the way he might be depicted. Tired of waiting for a response
from Balaji Films, his daughter, Shamshad Supariwala, is said
to be now contemplating legal action against Balaji.
